INFORMATION
In his third foray into the world of celluloid, Elvis Presley plays Vince Everett, a young man imprisoned for accidentally killing a man in a barroom fight. There he discovers his great musical talent, in part thanks to his cellmate, Hunk (played by Mickey Shaughnessy), teaching him how to play the guitar. When Vince is paroled, a beautiful woman gives him a chance in the recording world (played by Judy Tyler), which causes his life to turn upside down. This will begin a hard path to success for the boy, a success that is difficult to accept and that will cause changes in the young artist’s personality.
Jailhouse Rock is considered by many to be Presley’s best performance on film along with King Creole (1958). The songs that make up its soundtrack are full of classics such as Treat Me Nice, (You’re So Square) Baby I Don’t Care or the title track of the film. On a sad note, it should be noted that her co-star, actress Judy Tyler, would die in a fatal traffic accident along with her husband, shortly before the film’s premiere.
