LAST LIVE APPEARANCES UNTIL 1969

On February 25, 1961, Elvis appears in Memphis at a luncheon in his honor where he receives numerous recent awards and is shown to the press and others who attend. A press conference follows. Afterwards, Elvis performs an afternoon show and an evening show at the Ellis Auditorium for the benefit of around 38 Memphis-area charities.

Aside from the TV show with Sinatra, these concerts are Elvis’s only live performances since his return to civilian life after his military service. The “Elvis Presley Day” is proclaimed by the Governor of Tennessee Buford Ellington.

Every year around Christmas, Elvis donates money to a list of Memphis-area charities, reaching 50 or more. In a few years, to show its appreciation, the city will give him a huge plaque listing 50 charities.
