THE 4 HOURS VERSION IS DELAYED

Fans waiting for the much-hyped 4-hour director’s cut of the Baz Luhrmann biopic ELVIS may be waiting a long time.

Luhrmann has now said he won’t be working on it anytime soon.

It was in June at the Sydney premiere that Luhrmann first said there was an impressive four-hour extended original cut of ELVIS.

Since then, the musical biopic has been released to rave reviews and Austin Butler is currently the favorite to win Best Actor at the upcoming Oscars for his incredible performance as Elvis.

However, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, Luhrmann noted that despite fans’ passion for an extended version of the film, there won’t be one anytime soon, though he’s still open to the idea.

“…not now, and probably not next year, but I don’t close my mind to the idea that in the future there might be a way to explore another cut.”

Luhrmann explained that a finished director’s cut of “Elvis” isn’t exactly sitting there, waiting to be released.

“…it’s not that I have it, and I kept it; every minute in post production has to have visual effects, cut, refinement and ADR sound.

It’s not like I’m sitting there, finished, I can push a button and it comes out.

I would have to go back and work on it.

To do an extended cut, I’d be working on it for another four or six months; I’m not closed to that, but not now.

I’m a little tired”.

According to the director, not everything depends on him, since Warner still owns the film and they will have to agree not only to release a different version, but also to provide the funds for the production team to complete it.

Luhrmann thinks this could happen, given how successful the film has been in theaters and on HBO Max, but it’s not a foregone conclusion.

The weariness is understandable as Luhrmann has been working intensively on his Elvis movie idea since 2014.
