ELVIS’ FIRST VISIT TO HAWAII.
THE BEGINNING OF HIS LOVE FOR THE ISLANDS.
Elvis‘ first visit to his beloved Hawaiian Islands was in 1957.
On November 5, 1957, Elvis set sail for Honolulu, Hawaii, on the USS Matsonia, arriving on November 9, after a four-day sea voyage.
Elvis held a press conference aboard the USS Matsonia after his arrival in Honolulu harbor at 8:45 a.m. on November 9.

He was greeted by the screams of some 4,000 fans, who awaited his arrival, after meeting the press aboard the ship.
While Elvis was still aboard the USS Matsonia, his latest film, ‘Jailhouse Rock‘, would be released in U.S. theaters on November 8.
After the press conference, Elvis and his entourage headed to the Hawaiian Village Hotel. Elvis would be staying in room 1406 on the 14th floor of the Hawaiian Village.
Elvis was scheduled to perform the following day, November 10, at the Honolulu Stadium, where he would give two shows. And on the 11th at Schofield Barracks, HI. Post Bowl.
These would be Elvis’ last concerts of the 1950s.
And this would also be the beginning of Elvis’ strong bond and love for Hawaii, which lasted throughout his life, until his last vacation in March 1977.
