ELVIS IN HIS SUITE AT THE WARWICK HOTEL.
MARCH 17, 1956
NEW YORK
Elvis takes advantage of a break between rehearsal and the evening’s performance to be held at the Dorsey Brothers’ “Stage Show” to return to his hotel.
It was the day Elvis met the man who would become his invisible photographer. The photographer of his absolute intimacy: Alfred Wertheimer.
After rehearsals for the show they returned together to the Warwick Hotel.
Elvis had only known Wertheimer for five hours, but he felt comfortable with the young photographer.

Elvis lay down on the couch to look at the fan mail.
Wertheimer took more pictures of him, then settled into a nearby chair and fell asleep.
But he was awakened by the sound of an electric razor. Elvis had showered and was getting ready for the TV show.
Wertheimer asked if he could go into the bathroom and take more pictures. Elvis already had his pants on, and said yes.

Alfred also had the privilege of being able to watch and capture with his lens, as Elvis performed his protocol for combing his hair.
From that day on, they both made history.
Photos: Alfred Wertheimer. The photographer of his soul.
