“Elvis On Tour” on the list of the Best Record Boxes of 2022 according to Rolling Stone magazine

The new Sony set highly rated by a popular magazine

The approaching end of the year is a time of various kinds of summaries. One of them was recently made by the industry magazine Rolling Stone by publishing a list of the Best Record Boxes of 2022 on its website.

At the top of the list, of course, were the Beatles, who this year reminded themselves of themselves with the reissue of the brilliant longplay “Revolver“. Further places were taken by, among others, David Bowie, Paul McCartney with the set “The 7” Singles” as well as the groups Guns’N’Roses and Blondie.
Interestingly, the ranking also included Elvis Presley!

The creators of the list appreciated the box set of the king of rock’n’roll, released in early December, focusing on materials from the documentary “On Tour“. ” So much attention has been paid to Elvis Presley’s historic ‘Aloha From Hawaii‘ concert that it’s easy to overlook what led up to this historic event ,” reads the justification. “‘Elvis On Tour‘ focuses on the 1972 American tour and features four complete concerts from that tour. Most of the setlist is based on typical Presley songs from the seventies (‘See See Rider’, ‘You Gave Me A Mountain’ or ‘Polk Salad Annie‘ by Tonny Joe White) so it’s nice to hear Elvis change from time to time way of doing them – probably so as not to get bored. But the two rehearsal discs are the most surprising: you hear Presley teasing the musicians on Can’t Help Falling In Love, improvising on Marty Robbins‘ El Paso and finally singing spine-tingling gospel songs, which he loved so much .

It is worth adding here that the box in question has so far only been released in a digital version. For its physical version, enriched with a booklet and a Blue-Ray disc, fans have to wait until January 27, 2023.
