ELVIS AND PRISCILLA LEAVING THE HOSPITAL, AFTER THE BIRTH OF THEIR DAUGHTER, LISA MARIE

THE ONLY DAUGHTER OF ELVIS AND PRISCILLA IS BORN

On January 12, 1968, NBC vice president Tom Sarnoff announces a television special for Christmas dates with Elvis as the main star. This is Elvis’s first appearance on television since 1960. The agreement includes the making of the television special plus a movie (Change of Habit). Once again, Elvis manages to keep his salary of approximately one million dollars. While in January Elvis visits Nashville again to hold a session to record songs for the Stay Away Joe soundtrack. With Jerry Reed back in attendance, they also record a cover of Chuck Berry‘s hit “Too Much Monkey Business” as well as a new Jerry Reed song titled “U.S.Male.”

Priscilla gives birth to Lisa Marie Presley on February 1, 1968, nine months after she married Elvis. It is a moment of great happiness for the family. Elvis is delighted with his newly released fatherhood. “Stay Away Joe” opens nationally on March 8, 1968 to mixed reviews. In terms of box office the film comes in at number #65.
