ELVIS AND THE BILLBOARD
In 1965, the Beatles were still established as kings, while Elvis continued in his cinematographic exile. In this new article you will find anecdotes and great detail regarding the recordings that were published in single format. So I don’t entertain you anymore, I hope you find reading entertaining, and while we find ourselves on a new occasion, do me a favor: be happy.
All the best, Cesar Valle.

1965
Three will be the LP’s published by Elvis this year, two dedicated to soundtracks, “Girl Happy” and “Harum Scarum“, and a kind of compilation of session themes and movies called “Elvis for Everyone“. In the singles section, up to a total of 7 will be released this year, but only “Crying in the Chapel” will be able to reach the Top 3, the rest occupying rather mediocre positions.
As for the sessions, they were still focused on the soundtracks. In February he will record the one for “Harum Scarum“, beginning its shooting on March 15, and continuing the recording sessions in May with “Frankie & Johnny“, and in July with “Paradise Hawaiian Style“. As for its premieres, on November 24 “Harum Scarum” will do so, which will reach number 8 among the highest grossing. “Girl Happy” opens on April 7, and “Tickle Me“ on June 30.
In 1965 one of the most important events in the history of music will take place: The Beatles, in full swing, visit Elvis for a few hours, even doing a Jam Session.

As you can see, one of the most productive cinematographically, but rather poor in musical results, but the fact is that not even the visit of the four from Liverpool fazed Elvis, who was following his own.
THE BILLBOAD IN 1965
This year of 1965 begins on the Billboard just as the previous one had ended, with The Beatles and their song “I Fell Fine” at the top. But apart from the Liverpool quartet, it was undoubtedly the year of the Supremes, a quartet led by Diana Ross.
The Beatles scored four number ones: “Eight Days a Week“, “Ticket to Ride“, “Help” and “Yesterday“. The Supremes also scored four number ones: “Come See About Me“, “Stop in the Name of Love“, “Back in my Arms” and “I Hear a Simphony“. Others who also had a successful year in 1965 were the group The Birds, with a Bob Dylan composition, “Mr Tambourine Man” and with one version of the classic Peter Seeger, “Turn, Turn, Turn“.
This year the Rolling Stones could not be missing from this hit list, who were at the top with “Satisfaction“, a song in which Keith Richards was inspired while taking a nap, because what started the recorder for that he will not forget the guitar “riff”. His other number one was “Get Off of my Cloud“.
In 1965, the heartbreaking voice of Barry McGuire with “Eve of Destruction“, Sonny and Cher with “I Got You Baby” (in 1985, UB40 and Chrissie Hynde brought it back to number one in the UK) or Gary Lewis ( son of the famous comedian Jerry Lewis) who accompanied the group The Playboys were number one with “The Diamond Ring“.
Produced by Phil Spector, The Righteous Brothers also topped the charts with “You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin’” (which Elvis included in his live shows in the 1970s) and “Unchained Melody” (number 4 on the charts. Also The Beach Boys topped the chart with “Help me Ronda“, “Barbara Ann” (number 2) and “California Girls” (number 3).
English music contributed the remains of the Liverpool “Sound” with groups like Freddie and the Dreamers and their song “I’m Telling you Now“, as well as other bands that came from the island such as Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders “Game of Love” , Dave Clark Five “Over and Over” or Herman Hermints who would double with “I´m Henry VIII” and “Mrs. Brown You Got a Lovely Daughter“.

On the female side, Petula Clark triumphed with “Downtown” or the trio The Toys with “A Lovers Concerto“, a theme based on Bach’s minuet in G Major, which would reach number 2.
More hits from 1965: Sam The Sam and The Pharaons “Wooly Bully“, The McCoysy “Hang on Sloopy“, or Tom Jones who reached the Top 10 with “It’s Not Unusual“, and number 3 with “What’s New Pussycat “, central theme of the film of the same title composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
The Mamas and The Papas reached number 4 with “California Dreamin‘” and Bob Dylan reached number 2 with “Like a Rolling Stone“. The king of soul, James Brown, did a double in the R&B section with “Papa Got a Brand New Bag” and “I Fell Good“.

And within the Country genre, Roger Miller with “King of the Road“, number 4 in the Top 100 and number 1 in the section dedicated to cowboy music.
The Seekers, a quartet from Australia, came in at number two with “I’ll Never Find Another You“.
The black male vocal groups that came from Motown were still in the gap and, this year, The Four Tops would be number 1 with “I Can’t Help Myself” and The Temptations with “My Girl“.
In 1965, groups were created that in the future would be an important part of the world of music, such as The Doors, Pink Floyd, Scorpions or the Grateful Dead, or they would start their solo careers like Van Morrison. This year the American reaction was noticeable, but they were still unable to stop the rise of British pop. In 1966 things are going to change and, except for The Beatles and the occasional success, the United States will once again take the reins of the music industry.
Apart from the strictly musical, 1965 will be the year of great political events, such as the Vietnam War, the United States invades the Dominican Republic and very important people such as Winston Churchill, Malcolm X, Stan Laurel, the singer Nat King Cole or the actress die Margaret Dumont (eternal companion of the Marx brothers).
