TWO BIGS

Matt Esposito and Elvis Presley

Matt Esposito, manager of the Honolulu International Center, thanks Elvis for his great gesture.

The two shows in Hawaii on January 12 and 14, 1973 raised a staggering $75,000 for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund, $50,000 more than the goal set in November!

In part, this was because Colonel Tom Parker pressured prominent local personalities to contribute donations of USD 1,000 each to see the concert, while many children entered for 1 cent.

‘The Sunday Advertiser‘, active in promoting the programme, ran a lead editorial on 14 January 1973, saying:

“…Elvis Presley is still a great, good friend from Hawaii“; the newspaper reminded readers that this was the second time Elvis had “delivered in a big way for Hawaii“, recalling the Arizona Memorial benefit 12 years earlier.
