The Speedway Movie.
It starred Elvis, and this time his co-star was Nancy Sinatra.
It was directed by Norman Taurog in 1967, for Metro Goldwyn Mayer.
Although filming took place in June 1967, at the MGM studios in Culver City, some scenes were filmed on the Charlotte circuit.
”Speedway'” premiered in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 12, 1968. It was ranked 40th on Variety’s list of films for the year 1968.
This would be Nancy Sinatra’s last film role. And it would also be the last of Elvis’ films in Hollywood, which was aimed at a youth audience, since his following films would focus on a more adult audience.
On July 12, 1967, on the set of ‘Speedway’, Elvis announced that his wife Priscilla was pregnant. Elvis told a reporter: “This is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Principal photography on the film wrapped on August 18, 1967, but Elvis did not finish his work on the shoot until August 21. Immediately afterwards she would begin makeup tests for ‘Stay Away, Joe’.
The only guitar that appears in the film is during one of the final scenes, during the performance of the song “There Ain’t Nothing Like A Song”, where Elvis uses a spectacular Fender Coronado ll.
