AUDITION FOR SAM PHILLIPS
On June 6, 1954, at the suggestion of Marion Keisker, who certainly believed in the young Presley’s possibilities, Sam Phillips called Elvis to return to the studio and try to sing a song that Sam hoped to record on disc. The song was “Without You” and Elvis didn’t sing it the way Sam expected. Sam asked Elvis what he could sing and Elvis began singing a series of popular songs. Sam was impressed enough to ask Elvis to come by the studio again, this time adding local musicians Scotty Moore (guitar) and Bill Black (bass) to see if together they could come up with something worth the money. grief.
Sam Phillips was looking for a different sound, but at first he found Elvis focused almost entirely on the interpretation of ballads. History was at the door of the beginning of change in the history of music.
