Published in October 1970, it was the single that had the most impact from the sessions that took place in Nashville in June 1970. You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, was a song of Italian origin and that in 1966 had become became a hit with Dusty Springfield. Elvis once again transformed the song (very different from Dusty’s version) giving it a dramatic and heartbreaking background, thanks to two factors such as Elvis’ power of voice and again the subsequent arrangements that Felton Jarvis would perform and they would later practically be copied for their live performances.
The B side was an effective mid-tempo by the handwriting of Eddie Rabbit (Kentucky Rain) and Rory Burke (You’re Love It’s A Long Time Coming). Elvis seems happy performing this song. Later in Las Vegas, this song would have a faster pace, just as effective, but somewhat repetitive. The single performed very well on the charts, reaching number 11 on the Hot 100 Billboard, and with sales of almost a million copies it obtained the gold record that it still maintains today, certified by the RIAA.
