Lonnie Beale (Elvis) is an out-of-work rodeo cowboy who arrives in the town of Zuni Wells hoping to find work. Although it is not what he expected, he begins working as a fitness instructor and entertainer at the Circle Z ranch.
Elvis and Colonel Parker wanted to help the Allied Artists studios in their difficult financial situation by lowering the artist’s fee but in exchange they were guaranteed 50% of the box office profits from the film. To reduce costs, no soundtrack was recorded for the film but instead they used songs previously recorded by Elvis and which appeared on albums such as Elvis Is Back! (1960), Something For Everybody (1961) or Put Luck (1962), as well as other recordings made in Nashville during 1963 and 1964. The result was a total success, especially for the song (Such An) Easy Question which was a Top 40 hit in the USA, reaching #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Easy Listening Chart in July 1965.
The film grossed 5 million dollars at the box office. In addition, Elvis won the 1966 Golden Laurel Award for Best Actor in a Musical Film.
