Joe Esposito: “…another great mystery is why Elvis never took advantage of the constant offers he received to perform outside the United States.
It is generally believed that Colonel Parker put Kaos on these foreign trips for his own selfish purposes.
The fact is, the Colonel refused to take Elvis abroad because of the dangers involved.
Elvis could get away with transporting his drugs and weapons across state lines and on airplanes in the United States; but not abroad.
Parker was sure that the press or other authorities would catch Elvis with something, and the results would have been devastating embarrassment and scandal.
We couldn’t take the risk. Elvis never agreed to change, and that’s why we never played outside the US.
