Memphis Commercial Appeal: “…with 2022 marking the 45th anniversary of Elvis’s death and due to renewed interest in all things Elvis thanks to the success of the recent movie “Elvis,” this year’s Elvis Week looks set to be the busiest in recent memory.
Unsurprisingly, many of the key events of Elvis Week (Aug. 9-17) are already sold out, with others requiring the purchase of high-value ticket packages.
But here’s a sampling of events that are still open, affordable, and worth attending for Elvis fans or musically curious in Memphis.
– Elvis the Next Generation. August 14. The show with young artists inspired by Presley.
– Elvis Unplugged, Dean Z & Friends August 10. ETA veteran Dean Z hosts an afternoon concert where he will be joined by special guest artists for a mix of music and stories.
– Elvis Songwriters Showcase. August 11, 2 PM. Some of the best songwriters will be on hand to play songs and tell stories about their work with the King. Musician Andy Childs will host a writing group that includes Dickey Lee, Mike Stoller and Billy Swan.
-Ultimate Tribute Artist. August 12, 7 PM. The 2022 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest will see a new winner and take home a $20,000 prize. Presented by Ultimate ETA winner Dean Z.
– All the King’s Men. August 13, 7 PM. Hosted by Terry Mike Jeffrey and Andy Childs, members of the classic TCB Band, including James Burton, Glen Hardin, Jerry Scheff and Memphis Boys member Gene Chrisman, will share their thoughts and memories of working with Elvis. The show will also feature a tribute to TCB Band drummer Ronnie Tutt, who died last fall.
– Elvis: Behind The Scenes. August 14, 10AM Special guests will include Sam Thompson, Elvis’ friend and personal bodyguard, Charles Stone, Elvis’ tour producer during the 1970s, and Greg McDonald, who worked closely with Colonel Tom Parker on Elvis’s career.
– Conversations on Elvis: The Man, The Music, The Legend. August 15, 10:00 and 13:30 Appearances by Priscilla Presley, “Flaming Star” Barbara Eden, Jerry Schilling, singer Pat Boone, James Burton, Glen Hardin and Jerry Scheff, among others.
– Candlelight vigil. August 15, 8:30 PM – Admission is free.
– Viewing Party for ‘Elvis Presley In Concert’. August 16, 7 PM. It’s already sold out, but the Guest House will host a party to watch the concert live on the big screen.
