ELVIS & JIMMY CARTER

In this photo, probably taken on June 29, 1973 at the Atlanta Omni, we can see Elvis with Governor Jimmy Carter and his wife. (Carter was Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.)

Elvis performed at the Omni in Atlanta, Georgia two days in a row; Friday the 29th and Saturday the 30th of June 1973.

He started this tour on June 20 in Mobile, Alabama, and because the demand was so great in Atlanta, two concerts were added.

Jimmy Carter was President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.

When Elvis passed away in 1977, President Jimmy Carter said the following words:

“…the death of Elvis Presley deprives our country of a part of itself.

He was unique and irreplaceable.

His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white Country and black Rhythm’n’Blues, forever changed the face of American popular culture.

A symbol of the vitality, rebellion and good humor of his country”.
