ELVIS IN WESTERN HILLS INN”. (1958)
In the summer of 1958, Elvis was doing his Army Service. He did his basic and advanced tank training at Fort Hood, Texas. There he was very busy learning to drive tanks. Elvis ranked third as a tank gunner and would eventually lead the company’s drum in parades.
Once the basic training was finished, the soldiers who had dependent families were allowed to live outside the barracks, so Elvis, once he finished it, immediately took his family to Fort Hood.

Elvis used to spend some of the weekends that he had free – when he did not go to the Fadal house – in the city of Euless (Texas) in an elegant establishment called “Western Hills Inn”.
Elvis had rented a house in Killeen, where, after completing basic training, he lived off the military base with his parents, family and friends. He rented it to Judge Chester Crawford who was going on vacation for two months, starting July 1. They had previously been living in a three-bedroom trailer, but it had become too small for them. Euless was about two and a half hours away by car, making it easy for her to get around.
The Western Hills Inn (long since demolished) was one of his favorite places to spend weekends while at Ford Hood.

On Saturday, August 9, 1958, when he arrived there, Elvis encountered an EAE fraternity party from Texas Christian University, which was holding a celebration there.
All the people at the party were delighted with the company of Elvis, who was very happy with them and very friendly with everyone, as was usual for him.
They gave Elvis a guitar and we can see him in the photos tuning it, and most likely he would also play it to liven up the party.
Unfortunately, there were only a few days left for Elvis’s world to collapse forever. At the end of the week, on the 14th, his mother Gladys would die…
