Although filming took place in June 1967, ”Speedway” was released in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 12, 1968. It ranked 40th on Variety’s list of films for the year 1968.
This would be Nancy Sinatra‘s last film role. And it would also be the last of Elvis’ Hollywood films, which was aimed at a youth audience, as his next films would focus on a more adult audience.

On July 12, 1967, on the set of ‘Speedway’, Elvis announced that his wife Priscilla was pregnant. Elvis told a reporter, ”This is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Principal photography on the film was completed on August 18, 1967, but Elvis did not finish work on the shoot until August 21. Immediately afterward he would begin makeup tests for ‘Stay Away, Joe‘.
The only guitar that appears in the film is during one of the final scenes, during the performance of the song ” There Ain’t Nothing Like A Song “, where Elvis uses a spectacular Fender Coronado ll.
