ELVIS RADIO – SONGS

Five Sleepy Heads” is a lullaby that was composed by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett. Both were already regular Elvis songwriters.

It was originally recorded by Ernestine Schumann-Heink in 1906.

This song is a version of the lullaby by the classical German composer Johannes Brahms: “Wiegenlied” opus 49, no. 4.

Brahms was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1833. The song was written in honor of the birth of the son of friends of Brahms, Bertha and Artur Faber, in 1868.

Brahms in his youth had been in love with Bertha when she was a young woman who was part of his women’s choir in Hamburg.

The affair with Bertha ended, but the friendship endured, and the tune was composed by Brahms for Bertha’s little baby.

Elvis not only sang all kinds of musical genres to us, but he also sang to the children and left us lullabies as sweet as this one.

It was recorded by Elvis on June 20/21, 1967 at the MGM Sound Stage. Hollywood, California, and released for the first time for the soundtrack of the movie “Speedway“, on May 26, 1968.

A delicious song that transmits enormous tenderness to us, with the sweet, delicious and versatile voice of Elvis, with a beautiful beginning with the sound of a music box, and prepares us for the Wizard of Dreams to come looking for us to take us with him every night and watch over our dreams.

simply delicious

ELVIS SONG (Lyrics) –

“FIVE SLEEPY HEADS”

There were five sleepyheads

All tucked into their beds

While I sang a lullaby

One got dream dust in her eye

There were four sleepyheads

Playing possum with me

Mr. sandman came by

And then there were three

Moonbeams play peek-a-boo

Three awake became two

And my song was almost done

When the land of nod took one

Kissed the last one goodnight

Then I heard not a peep

There were five sleepyheads

Now they’re all fast asleep
