Behind the scenes of the groundbreaking TV show in a new documentary
Broadcast in December 1968, “ELVIS“, known today as “NBC TV Comeback Special” or “The ’68 Comeback Special“, had the highest viewership in all of 1968.
“We all had a blast every day ,” show director Steve Binder told us during our conversation. “ Elvis was great working with me and all my staff. He’s never been uptight to my knowledge. From start to finish .”
The NBC show, combining elements of a live performance, the first in seven years (Elvis last performed on stage in 1961) with scenes shot in a TV studio, proved to be a springboard to success and made Presley‘s career undermined by years of appearances in Hollywood films she came to life again.
Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback Special will premiere on Paramount+ on August 15, 2023, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at this historic and groundbreaking TV show.
In the program, Steve Binder, musicians and other living people who create this program will share their memories.
A day later, on August 16, Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback Special will also be screened in the UK, Latin America, Brazil, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.
This year marks exactly 55 years since “Elvis: The ’68 Comeback Special” was filmed and aired. So it’s worth remembering its history.
