On Wednesday, May 25, 1955, Elvis attends to the third annual memorial celebration of Jimmie Rodgers, the “Father of Country Music” universally recognized in his hometown.
The next day, all the artists participate in the parade, including Elvis, and later performs at Junior College Stadium.
The September issue of ‘Country Song Roundup’ reports that Elvis was called in for encore after encore, performing “Baby Let’s Play House,” “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone,” “Milkcow Blues Boogie” and “You’re A Heartbreaker”, among others.
That same day, Colonel Parker writes a long letter to Bob Neal describing everything he has done for Presley and offering to work more closely with Neal in promoting the young singer’s career:
“…if you ever want to bond with me and let me take over, I’ll be happy to sit down with you two and try to work out a deal.”
