Released in November 1970, Elvis Christmas Album was a new LP reissue of Elvis’ Christmas album. This time under the Camden (RCA) label. On this occasion the album was made up of nine songs, 7 of them from Elvis’s original Christmas LP from 1957. The remaining two were “If Everyday Was Like Christmas”, a Christmas song recorded in 1966 in Nashville and the last and perhaps the most surprising “Mama Liked The Rose” recorded at American Sound Studios in 1969 and side B of the single “The Wonder Of You”, and which had little to do with the Christmas season and was apparently included on the album at the request of fans (By Request).
What seemed like a seemingly normal release that would not have much significance…to date it is Elvis’s best-selling album of all time. With current sales of more than 10 million copies, the RIAA awarded it the diamond record in 2012 and so far the only one it has obtained.
