THE BEST-SELLING RECORD OF ELVIS PRESLEY’S CAREER

The soundtrack of “Blue Hawaii” enters the Billboard chart for a period of a year and a half, staying at number # 1 for 20 weeks, and only surpassed by “GI Blues” as the album with the longest tenure of the career of Elvis on the Billboard charts. He also got a #2 with the single “Can’t Help Falling in Love“, a song that would become a classic in Elvis Presley’s discography.

At the same time, Elvis made recordings in Nashville not related to his films. Among these recordings is “Good Luck Charm” which again hit #1 on the Billboard charts in 1962. It will represent their last number until “Suspicious Minds” appears in 1969. “Blue Hawaii” premieres nationally on November 22, 1961 with excellent reviews. The film will finish at #18 on the charts for the highest-grossing films of 1961 and #14 for 1962. It becomes the highest-grossing film of Elvis’ career so far. Its family movie features, splendid landscapes, many songs featuring Elvis, and lots of pretty girls, become the basis of the “Presley Formula” of the films that Elvis would play in the sixties.

KING OF THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD WILL BE THE MAIN THEME OF HIS NEW FILM, KID GALAHAD

Counting his time in the Army, this will be the only Christmas Elvis will spend away from Graceland. It will run from December 22 to January 29 in Las Vegas. During the months of October and November Elvis begins recording and filming for his 10th film, “Kid Galahad.” It will be completed on December 20, 1961. This film will once again feature Joan Blackman (Blue Hawaii) and Charles Bronson. The soundtrack again has few songs, among which “King Of The Whole Wide World” stands out.
