Tennessee Governor Bulford Ellington and Memphis Mayor Henry Loeb declared February 25 “Elvis Presley Day.” And Elvis received a special gift from RCA Victor to honor the record of more than 75 million records sold, including “Surrender,” his last #1.
But the evening was even more special because Elvis gave his first live performance since returning from the army.
Although Elvis sang during the ‘Welcome Home Elvis‘ show with Frank Sinatra, this was his first ‘real‘ live performance.
Pictured here is a unique line-up, as not only is DJ Fontana on drums, but a second drummer has been added to play this show, Buddy Harman.
The man on his knees bowing to Elvis is comedian George Jessel.
