The show was for a good cause…
The set list for the March 25, 1961 concert at Bloch Arena in Honolulu, HI, is a relic that links one of their greatest concerts with the construction of a memorial to those who fell at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
Elvis wrote it in his own handwriting on Hilton Hawaiian Village letterhead, with 15 songs.
After the show, Presley scribbled a personal note on the back of the set list to his great friend Gary Pepper, President of the Elvis Presley Tankers fan club, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
Elvis says in the note: “…the show was for a good cause, Gary, and it was good to be able to do my part.”
The friendship between Elvis and Gary began after he began collecting newspaper clippings of the singer and sharing them with his mother.
Presley kept the list as a souvenir for Gary for not being able to attend the show.
