INFORMATION
First single published by Elvis after his return from military service. The king of rock arrives in Memphis on March 7, 1960, two days after graduating. After a few days off, Elvis returns to the recording studios to start working on his new album. It will be on March 20 in Nashville. On the 21st he would record the two songs that make up his first single of the 1960s. Take number three was used for Stuck On You and number fifteen for Fame And Fortune.
Stuck On You reaches No. 1 on the Hot 100 charts on April 25, staying for four weeks. In total, 16 weeks of permanence.
In country charts it reaches number 27 and in R&B charts number 6. Elvis would perform it live, along with Fame And Fortune, on March 26, 1960 in the Grand Ballroom of the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach for the Frank Sinatra television show (although it would air on May 12). The program, remembered in large part for being the only time that The Voice and the King of Rock sang together on stage, had an audience of 41.5%. During the July 1970 rehearsals at the MGM studios in Hollywood featured in the movie That’s The Way It Is we can also see and hear Elvis perform Stuck On You.
Fame And Fortune would get number seventeen as the best position on Billboard.
For these recording sessions, Elvis relied on Scotty Moore‘s guitar, absent from the last sessions in June 1958; not so with Bill Black‘s bass that he decided to abandon his contractual relationship with Elvis forever. Hank Garland, Bob Moore, DJ Fontana, “Buddy” Harman and Floyd Cramer once again repeated their participation in Elvis Presley recordings.
