Information
November 4, 1960, RCA Studio B in Nashville, dim lighting and a piano in the middle of the room. After a few guitar chords, Elvis’s velvety voice begins to sweetly interpret the first lines of Are You Lonesome Tonight? accompanied by the unmistakable voices of The Jordanaires. The theme manages to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts on November 28, since it will remain for five weeks. In Country lists it reaches number 22 as the best position and in R&B lists number 3, being no less than nineteen weeks of permanence.

Classic of the king of rock, he resorted to it in his live performances during 1960 and 1961, to later recover it on his return to the stage, first in the Comeback Special and later in his debut in Las Vegas in 1969. It would maintain it during 1970 and 1972 to later disappear and be recovered again during the last year of Elvis’s life. A theme that she always showed a fun and mocking Elvis on stage.
The song received three Grammy Award nominations: Best Record of the Year, Best Male Performance, and Best Popular Music Performance, although it failed to win the award in any of the three categories. The master take was number five.
