THAT’S THE WAY IT IS, AUGUST 1970

Elvis returns to Las Vegas for the second engagement of the year. The Colonel gives it the promotional name “Elvis Presley Summer Festival“. This is another month long engagement at the International Hotel. The opening show takes place on August 10 and will end on September 7. Metro Goldwyn Mayer cameras are at the hotel to film a documentary called “Elvis That’s The Way It Is” given the agreement that Col. Tom Parker, Elvis Presley, and the film company have reached and will show Elvis offstage , in rehearsals, in the recording studio, and on stage.

Fans will be able to see how Elvis prepares for the new season of concerts in Las Vegas. His record company, RCA, he will also release a self-titled album of live and studio tracks previously recorded in Nashville this past June.

The images in the film speak for themselves; We are looking at a happy Elvis, fit and focused on putting on good shows for his fans who have waited so long to see him live again.

IN A LIGHTNING VISIT, ELVIS IS RECEIVED AT THE WHITE HOUSE BY PRESIDENT NIXON

Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon

With his engagement to the International Hotel in Las Vegas over, Elvis Presley embarks on a nine-city tour. It is the first tour since 1957. Portions of this tour will be recorded by MGM for use in the movie “Elvis -That’s The Way It Is“.

After the tour is over Elvis has a new recording session in Nashville to record missing tracks for his future record releases. “Elvis, That’s the Way Is It,” Elvis’ 32nd film, opens in theaters on November 11, 1970 to good reviews and box office success. The album of the same title is published, but it does not reflect 100% what the film shows, as it contains live songs and studio recordings. The album also receives good reviews and manages to reach #21 on the album chart.

At that time, Elvis and Priscilla made the purchase of another house in California located at 144 Monovale Street for $339,000 on December 4, 1970. Accompanied by Jerry Schiling and Sonny West, on December 21, 1970, Elvis Presley makes the famous visit to US President Richard Nixon at the White House.
