ELVIS IS BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Elvis Presley returns to the Las Vegas International Hotel for another month-long engagement. This time, he breaks his own attendance record from the previous August. In February 1970 Elvis began using the one-piece suits that help him with his karate moves, which are now part of his stage show. The live album, “On Stage,” is recorded in February and will be released in June, peaking at #13 on the album chart.

Once Elvis’s engagement in Las Vegas is over, Elvis heads to Houston where he will perform his first concerts before an audience other than the one that has attended the International Hotel. A press conference will be held in Houston on the 27th. Elvis performs afternoon and evening shows at the Houston Astrodome. Two more shows will take place on February 28 and March 1. An official dinner and another press conference where Elvis will be presented along with various gold records of his singles and LP’s respectively, will close the event. The six shows attract 207,494 people. There is speculation among the press and the public that Elvis could go on a concert tour for the first time since the 1950s.

THE SINGLE “THE WONDER OF YOU” RETURNS ELVIS TO THE TOP OF THE UK CHARTS

The single “The Wonder of You – Mama Liked The Roses” was released in April 1970 and achieved a creditable #9 position on the Billboard charts. In the UK the single gets number #1. The song is recorded in his band of concerts in January/February 1970 at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, and is part of the LP project “On Stage“, his second live album to be released in June 1970.

After more than a year without recording in Nashville, producer Felton Jarvis has Elvis return to Studio B (which in recent months had been modernized with the latest recording techniques) to record new songs to fulfill his contractual obligations. The idea is to produce several singles (I’ve Lost You, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me) and albums (Elvis Country, That’s The Way It Is). Felton Jarvis has modified the entire studio band, so that it has a much more contemporary sound. Elvis feels comfortable and makes 35 recordings, leaving everyone very satisfied with the productivity of the sessions.
