This single confirms Elvis’s intention to republish songs in which he believed. In September 1967, recording sessions were prepared that would run from the 10th to the 12th and where the singer from Tupelo recorded new, fresh material with evident country tendencies. Big Boss Man became a classic in Elvis’s career; Not only did it appear as a single where it would reach position No. 38 on the Hot 100 charts, but it would also be rescued for the NBC television special a year later and later performed live in the 1970s. It was also included as a bonus. track from the LP that included the soundtrack of Clambake (1967) along with three other songs belonging to the same recording sessions such as Just Call Me Lonesome, Singing Tree and Guitar Man.
For the B side, You Don’t Know Me, a beautiful song that Elvis had already recorded months ago to be included in the Clambake soundtrack but that he was now recording again. It was number 44 in the US. The master shot was obtained from takes one and two. For these recording sessions, Elvis was accompanied by musicians such as Scotty Moore, Harold Bradley, Chip Young and Jerry Reed (Guitar Man and Big Boss Man) on guitars, Bob Moore on bass, Murrey “Buddy” Harman and DJ Fontana on on drums, Floyd Cramer on piano, Hoyt Hawkins (Mine, Singing Tree and Just Call Me Lonesome) on organ, Charlie McCoy on guitar, harmonica and organ, Homer “Boots” Randolph on saxophone, Peter Drake on steel guitar and Ray Stevens on trumpet. The Jordanaires (Gordon Stoker, Hoyt Hawkins, Neal Matthews and Ray Walker) and Millie Kirkham. Elvis played piano on You’ll Never Walk Alone.
