In Graceland, we visit the Jungle Room, the TV room and other famous spaces in the King’s house, but one place we can’t see is the mysterious upstairs.

Even in life, the first floor of Graceland was Elvis’s private space, including his bedroom, his office, and the bathroom where he died.

His only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, owner of the Memphis mansion, had a key and he has said that the top floor of Graceland seems to him to be the safest place in the world.

Graceland archivist Angie Marchese is one of the few authorized people there.

During a Q&A session for a live virtual tour of Graceland, many fans asked about the upstairs.

Angie responded, “…I’m sorry, I wish I could take you upstairs, but upstairs at Graceland, even when Elvis was alive, was always a very private part of the mansion. “…even Elvis’s closest friends and family couldn’t go up, unless that they were personally invited. When we opened tours in 1982, the family requested that it be kept private, and we still honor that request to this day. The bed is made and all of his personal items are still in their place, except for his clothes, which are in files.

During an Instagram Live Q&A, Angie shared how the last record Elvis played is still on his turntable upstairs; a new recording of ‘JD Sumner and the Stamps‘. “…it was a recording they had just made in the studio and that they had sent him to Elvis.
