INFORMATION
In his first appearance on the big screen after his military service, Elvis plays the role of soldier Tulsa Mclean, stationed at a US military base in German lands. Determined to open a nightclub after his time in the army, he is forced to take part in a bet to get the money he needs, which consists of melting the ice heart of an attractive dancer (role played by Juliet Prowse) . What the young soldier doesn’t count on is that what begins as a bet will end up becoming love.
GI Blues marked the second collaboration of the king of rock with producer Hal B. Wallis, in a film that took advantage of Elvis’s career as a soldier stationed in Germany for two years to set the story on a military base in German lands. The film, which began a formula that would become a box office success throughout the 1960s for Elvis (the romantic musical comedy), obtained succulent dividends at the box office in the same way as its soundtrack, would become one of the best sellers of our idol’s film career.
