ELVIS RELEASES HIS FIRST FILM: LOVE ME TENDER

PREMIERE OF “LOVE ME TENDER” AT THE PARAMONT THEATER

On November 15, Elvis’s first film, “Love Me Tender” under a contract that Colonel Tom Parker signs with the executives of Twentieth Century Fox, premieres at the Paramount Theater in New York, days before the rest. from the country. An innumerable congregation of fans wait impatiently for the doors of the Paramount Theater to open so they can see his idol’s first film. It becomes a great success, and critics’ comments are not bad for his performance in this melodrama, which focuses on South America in the 1800s, in the era of the Civil War and which was initially going was titled “The Reno Brothers” but due to the new title of the song that Elvis would perform in this film, it was decided to change it at the last minute. The film shows us Elvis performing various musical performances.  Elvis wanted his films to not have to incorporate his songs, and to be able to show that he really had the makings of a great actor.  Unfortunately his songs were a commercial hook that film producers did not want to waste. In later years this rule would become increasingly evident.

ELVIS HAD BECOME THE MAIN SYMBOL OF THE NEW YOUTH CULTURE IN THE USA

The Wall Street Journal’s front page reports that in recent months, Elvis products have raked in $22 million in sales. Elvis ends this crucial year in his career, going from regional popularity to unprecedented fame at national and international levels. The year 1956 has seen the beginning of the marketing of Elvis souvenirs, the beginning of a successful film career, unprecedented record sales (five singles have been number one on the pop chart, two number one albums on pop charts, and other hits), television appearances, sold-out concerts and much more. Elvis has become the main symbol of the new youth culture in the United States. He has become one of the most controversial figures in society. His unique blend of country and gospel music, with black R&B and white pop, as well as his charisma and talent, and the resulting success and controversy, have greatly helped him begin, unpremeditatedly, a cycle of change in music and popular culture and customs of American society. Nothing will ever be the same again, neither for Elvis Presley nor for the world.
