LOVING YOU, THE PREMIERE
On July 9, 1957, Elvis’s second film, “Loving You” premiered in Memphis. It opens nationwide on July 30 and charts in National Variety’s Cash Box Office Survey for four weeks, peaking at #7. Elvis skips the premiere, but along with his girlfriend at the time Anita Wood and his parents watch a private screening at midnight. The film’s soundtrack includes the great classic “Teddy Bear” which would form a single along with Loving You, a song by the duo Leiber & Stoller and which would give the film its title. Evidently at this point, the trips, tours and album releases continued progressively, establishing the career of the Tupelo artist.

THE VANCOUVER CONCERT WILL BE ELVIS’ LAST PERFORMANCE OUTSIDE THE US
The last days of August and first of September 1957 Elvis has several concerts scheduled. For these concerts he will wear a black shirt and pants and the gold lamé suit jacket. On the 30th he performs at Memorial Stadium in Spokane and on August 31st, Elvis performs in Vancouver before 26,500 spectators. The performance will have to be interrupted for a while as fans break safety regulations and endanger the integrity of the musicians. Colonel Tom Parker will formalize a complaint against the promoters who have hired too few security members for the massive influx that the concert has. Vancouver is the third Canadian city the singer has performed in and will mark the last time he will perform a concert outside of the United States. The first two days of September, Elvis will perform in the cities of Tacoma (Washington) and Portland (Oregon) respectively. Once this tour is over, Elvis takes a bus to Los Angeles, where he returns to a recording studio (Los Radio Recorders) to make the Christmas album that RCA has asked him to make to cover the publicity and release strategy of the album. singer, as well as new singles for the coming months.
