Released in July 1970, the single I’ve Lost You/The Next Step Is Love was Elvis’ first release from the marathon recording sessions of June 1970. Elvis returned to recording in Nashville after more than two years. without doing so. Many things had changed, Elvis had returned to the charts, his film contracts had ended and he had returned to performing concerts, Studio B had improved significantly in terms of recording quality and most importantly, the studio band It was practically new, which guaranteed freshness and a new way of working in the studio.
I’ve Lost You, was a song from two English authors with lyrics about a breakup, and that allowed Elvis to unleash all of his vocal power. The problem with the song lies in the arrangements, where, as would happen in many songs from the 70’s, they detracted from the freshness and quality of the song.

The B side of I’ve Lost You was The Next Step Is Love, from the same sessions, and totally opposite to the B side. It is a happy, fresh song full of optimism. The song is perfectly executed, and everything and the overload of arrangements, these do not interfere too much with the interpretation. It was a single that did not achieve the desired success, reaching number 32 on the Billboard list. Not in vain, sales were quite acceptable, initially exceeding 500,000 copies. Currently, this single is listed as a gold record by the RIAA.
