NEW CONTRACT WITH RCA

Colonel Parker rejects an offer in July 1966 to make a film in Japan, claiming that Elvis will not be available until 1969. On August 30, 1966, RCA makes the decision not to wait until the end of 1967, when their relationship ended. contractual with Presley, and decides to exercise his option to extend Elvis’ contract until 1974.

On September 21, 1966, Elvis signed a lease for a house in Palm Springs at 1350 Ladera Circle. It is a modern construction house that will serve to relax while you are not immersed in your filming.

LAST FILM FOR HALL WALLIS AND PARAMOUNT

On November 9, 1966, Elvis began recording for the soundtrack and the film “Easy Come, Easy Go.” It will be the last film he will make with producer Hal B. Wallis and for Paramount Pictures. It will be directed by director John Rich who had already worked with Elvis on the film “Roustabout.”

Hal Wallis had already had differences with Elvis in the last few shoots, concerned about his image on the big screen, which led to him not deciding to negotiate a new contract with this company. Despite recording new films, no one notices the poor quality of these as well as the similarity of the roles that Elvis must play. The artist’s frustration is increasing. Another significant fact is that by 1966 there were already warning signs regarding Elvis’ film career, which was in danger of losing popularity and income.

Spinout” makes its national premiere on November 23, 1966 and will reach #57 at the box office by the end of the year. The soundtrack with a more pop feel fails to reach the top positions, remaining at number #18. By the end of December, Elvis’s interest in horses grows considerably. On December 5, he buys clothes and horse riding equipment.

On December 20, he buys Priscilla a horse for Christmas. It is also during the Christmas season when Elvis formally proposes to Priscilla, buying her an engagement ring.
