RETURN TO THE BIG SCREEN AND NEW PROJECTS

Elvis is back in Las Vegas for his second engagement of the year. The Colonel is giving it the promotional name “Elvis Presley Summer Festival.” This is another month-long engagement at the International Hotel. The opening show is on August 10th and runs through September 7th.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer cameras are at the hotel to film a documentary called “Elvis That’s The Way It Is” as agreed between Col. Tom Parker, Elvis, and the film company and will show Elvis off stage, in rehearsal, in the recording studio, and on stage. Fans will be able to see how Elvis prepares for the new season of concerts in Las Vegas.

His record company, RCA, will also release an album of the same name with live and studio songs previously recorded in Nashville last June. The images in the film speak for themselves; we see a happy Elvis, in shape and focused on putting on a good show for his fans who have waited so long to see him live again.

IN A BLAST VISIT, ELVIS IS RECEIVED AT THE WHITE HOUSE BY PRESIDENT NIXON

After completing his engagement at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, Elvis embarks on a nine-city tour. It is his first tour since 1957. MGM will record portions of this tour for use in the film “Elvis – That’s The Way It Is.” After the tour is over, Elvis has another recording session in Nashville to record missing tracks for future record releases.

“Elvis, That’s the Way Is It,” Elvis’ 32nd film, is released in theaters on November 11, 1970 to good reviews and a good box office performance. The album of the same name is released, but it does not 100% reflect what the film shows, containing both live songs and studio recordings. The album also receives good reviews and manages to reach #21 on the album chart.

Around that time, Elvis and Priscilla purchased another house in California at 144 Monovale Street for $339,000 on December 4, 1970.

Accompanied by Jerry Schiling and Sonny West, on December 21, 1970, Elvis made his famous visit to US President Richard Nixon at the White House.
