EL ESLABÓN PERDIDO
Los shows en el Ellis Auditorium de Memphis fueron los primeros realizados por Elvis Presley luego de cumplir con el servicio militar el 25 de Febrero de 1961.
La revista “Teen Album” de la Silver Screen fue uno de los medios que cubrió todo el evento.
Estuvieron en la recepción y posterior conferencia de prensa en el Hotel Claridge, y por supuesto vieron ambos shows en el Auditorio.
Nos contó D.J. Fontana que, a diferencia del show en Pearl Harbor, ensayaron varios días en Graceland, ya que Elvis no actuaba en vivo desde aquel lejano Shoffield Barracks de Honolulu, HI en Noviembre de 1957.
Como se puede ver, hay muchos temas en común entre Febrero y Marzo, pero aquí hay algunas joyas que no aparecieron en el concierto de Pearl Harbor.
“Doin’ The Best I Can” fue considerado en la lista de temas que escribiera Elvis y luego tachado.
En el show de la noche, Elvis lo reemplazó por “Fever”. Finalmente, “Surrender” fue eliminado del show de las 8:30 pues, tal como dijo el propio Elvis “…no pegamos una”.
