Information

First single published by RCA in 1959, while Elvis was doing military service at an American base in Bad Nauheim, Federal Republic of Germany. On June 10 and 11, 1958, during one of his leaves before leaving for Germany, Elvis recorded five songs so that his record company could publish them during his professional hiatus.

A Fool Such As I, the A-side of the single, was recorded together with A Big Hunk O’Love, Ain’t That Loving You Baby, I Got Stung and the B-side of the current single, I Need Your Love Tonight.

For these sessions, Scotty Moore and Bill Black did not participate. His personal relations with Elvis were not going through their best moment. Hank Garland and Chet Atkins filled in for Moore, Bob Moore was on bass, and Floyd Cramer did a great job on piano.

Side A, taken from take number nine, reached number two on April 27, 1959. I Fool Such As I was nominated for a Grammy in the category of best song of the year, but the award ultimately went to Mack The Knife. by Bobby Darin.

Take number 18 served to extract the master of I Need Your Love Tonight, a song that would manage to climb to number four on the Top 100 of Billboard magazine.

The single managed to sell a million copies.
