Information

Roustabout, was Elvis’s last LP from 1964. Released in October, it was the soundtrack to the Elvis movie for Paramount Pictures. The recording sessions took place at the usual Radio Recorders in Hollywood during the month of March and the material was scattered, with good songs (Roustabout,Little Egypt, Hard Knocks,Big Love Big Heartache, It’s a Wonderful World) and songs that could classified as “classics” of soundtracks.

Curiously, a great song that was not published and remained in the archives was the composition Routabout that Otis Blackwell/Winfield Scott had written, it was discarded for containing words that could be considered offensive. Fortunately, many years later this song would come into our hands.

Surprisingly, the LP had a good reaction in the market, reaching number 1 on the Billboard charts and obtaining the gold record, awarded by the RIAA. It would be the last Elvis LP to reach number 1 in the US until 1973 with the release of “Aloha From Hawaii“.
