ELVIS. LAS VEGAS . SEASON AUGUST – SEPTEMBER 1971

Elvis Presley performed at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel in 1971, in what would be his fifth season. The season would begin on August 9 and end on September 6, 1971.

It was a somewhat difficult season for him, but his performances were good and he gave very good concerts.

For Elvis, the fact of being in Las Vegas was already a certain boredom, since the performances were always the same and he was beginning to feel very tired of the same routine and the same repertoires. He was not going through a good personal moment, his marriage was about to break up. His wife Priscilla would leave him at Christmas of that same year, taking their daughter Lisa Marie with her.

He also had some health problem, since he suffered from the flu and his vocal cords were affected.

Elvis also received three death threats and carried a gun in his boot while performing. But it wasn’t something Elvis hadn’t done before, as death threats weren’t new to him. The previous year he had also suffered serious threats.

Despite everything, Elvis performed all his shows, as in previous seasons in Las Vegas, to sold-out houses, giving good performances, although he had to be somewhat careful due to his throat problems, and he was also affected by medication.

The performances, especially on the nights at the beginning of the season, were very good. Elvis put, as always, all his effort in each show. Although he offers some shorter shows, due to his vocal cord problems, he delivers them in a very intense and fresh way.

It is curious to note that already in this year 1971, the difference between dinner shows and midnight shows was becoming noticeable. Elvis sounded a little more low-key during parts of the Dinner Shows, but he sounded impressive a couple of hours later at the midnight shows.

But despite all these circumstances, Elvis Presley offered us very good shows on stage and the reaction of his audience when they saw him continued to be the same. His audience adored him, just as he adored his audience and would always give his best.
