On February 1, 1956, as “Heartbreak Hotel” makes its way up the charts on its way to #1, the single “I Forgot To Remember To Forget“/ “Mystery Train“, representing his fifth and final single under the Sun Records label, will reach #1 on the national Country Billboard chart. Her first #1 hit on a national chart. On March 23, 1956, RCA released “Elvis Presley“, Elvis’s first album. The album soon goes to number #1 on the Billboard pop albums chart for 10 weeks. It is Elvis’s first album to reach over $1 million in sales, thus earning him his first gold LP.

On March 26, 1956, Elvis arrives in Los Angeles to begin a screen test for Paramount Studios in Hollywood on the 26th and 27th. The test will consist of two parts, one in which he must perform “Blue Suede Shoes” and the second the making of two scenes from the still unreleased film, which was titled “The Rainmaker.” This film originally starred Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn. Producer Hal B. Wallis is convinced of Elvis’s possibilities as an actor, so he negotiates with Col. Tom Parker the terms of Elvis’ contract with Paramount Pictures.
