“The Sound Of Your Cry” By Rosa García Mora

“The clock by the bed ticks, too loudly in the quiet night

I lie in the dark thinking I must leave before dawn

Before you open your eyes and beg me to stay

I’m leaving because I can’t stand to see you hurt like this.

Sleep my love while I kiss you goodbye

Then I won’t hear the sound of your crying…”

A heartbreaking ballad, recorded by Elvis in the sessions on June 4, 1970 at RCA Studio B in Nashville, with Felton Jarvis on production. The song was composed by Bill Giant, Vernier Baum and Florence Kaye, composers already very common for Elvis, especially during the film period.

It was first released as a single as the B-side of “It’s only Love” on September 21, 1971.

Elvis gives an impressive and moving performance, heartbreaking and full of strength and passion. The lover who wants to abandon her love, but can’t stand seeing her cry and will kiss her goodbye while she sleeps.

A real shame that Elvis will never perform it in his concerts, but he left us with his chilling studio performance and it will always be a song that will remain in our hearts.
