Published in April 1970 as a preview of the LP that would be published in June 1970 “On Stage”, the single The Wonder Of You was an old song from the early 60s, and one of those ballads that Elvis liked so much. Recorded during his first season in 1970 at the International Hotel in Las Vegas, it was Elvis’s first single recorded live. It is a song with very effective arrangements by Glenn D. Hardin. Elvis’s arrangements and voice gave this song a lot of strength, very distant from the original recording of this song, and the subsequent vocal arrangements (made in Nashville) improved the originals (by the Sweet Inspirations and the Imperials) by Elvis himself. show.
The B side of this song came from the recording sessions at American Sound Studios. It is a good song, and Elvis executes it perfectly. Here perhaps the arrangements fail, perhaps a little loaded that takes away the strength of Elvis’s interpretation. This single enjoyed very good results, especially in the United Kingdom, where it reached number 1. In the US it reached number 9 on Billboard charts, selling more than a million copies.
