“GUITAR MAN – THE ’67/68 SESSIONS” AND… – NEWS FROM FTD!
FTD announces new products!
The FTD (Follow That Dream) label today announced a list of titles that will be available for sale in July this year.
The first of two new releases will be the five-CD set “Guitar Man – The ’67/68 Sessions”, focusing on Elvis Presley’s recording sessions in the famous Studio B in Nashville. This extended version of the album “Elvis Sings Guitar Man” released in 2011 offers the singer’s fans an almost complete record of the recording sessions from September 10/11, 1967 and January 15/16, 1968.
In addition to the title track, the albums will include a full set of takes on songs such as “Big Boss Man”, “Mine”, “Singing Tree”, “Just Call Me Lonesome”, “USMale” and “Too Much Monkey Business”. “. It will also be a real treat to hear (for the first time officially) all takes on the song “Goin’ Home”. So far, the first attempts at this piece, most likely due to the rather specific course of work on them, were available only on unofficial publications (so-called bootlegs).
Interestingly, the official list of recordings does not include the title “The Prisoner’s Song”, i.e. a song from which Elvis intoned an extensive fragment between the first and second take of the song “Stay Away”.
We can only hope that when presenting a set of rehearsals for the above song, the publishers will not omit the mentioned jam session…
The next announced title will be a book by Bob Pakes titled “Celluloid Sell – Out!”. As we read in the announcement, on over four hundred pages, the author has collected over two thousand photos of posters and various types of memorabilia from around the world related to Elvis’s films from 1960-1961.
The book will be accompanied by two CDs with selected alternative approaches to Elvis’s film songs from the above-mentioned period.
