Released in January 1971, “Elvis Country” is perhaps the closest Elvis has ever come to recording a concept album. The recording sessions took place between June and September 1970 at Studio B in Nashville. It was not an initially sought-after album since it came together as the recording sessions progressed, but in one way or another, it is perhaps his most consistent studio LP of the 70’s.
The song “I Was Born 10,000 Years Ago” intertwined the songs without leaving the typical space between song and song. Another relevant fact is the magnificent cover, which showed that, perhaps, exceptional care had been taken in the final product.
The album achieved a creditable number 12 and the reviews were positive. In terms of sales, it achieved approximately over 500,000 copies, which allowed it to obtain the gold record awarded by the RIAA.
