ELVIS HISTORY
ELVIS IN HIS PRIVACY, ON BOARD THE TRAIN FROM NEW YORK TO MEMPHIS. JULY 3, 1956.
On board the train that took him from New York to Memphis, back home.
Elvis reproduces on his portable record player, in an intimate, thoughtful and absorbed way, the acetates of the RCA recording session in New York, made the day before (July 2, 1956), to get an idea of how his fans will listen to the songs, and looking for that perfection that this session had given him so much work and effort.

In it Elvis had recorded “Hound Dog“, “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Any Way You Want Me“.
Elvis had been performing ”Hound Dog” live at his concerts, for quite some time before recording it. It is rumored that he was reluctant to record it, but was convinced to do so due to the popularity of the song in his live performances.
Over the years, it has been rumored that Elvis may have attempted to record the song “Only You” at these sessions.
“Only You” had been a hit for The Platters in 1955 and Elvis is known to have sung it frequently during his live appearances around this time, although no recording has surfaced to date. Interestingly, despite the appearance of hundreds of outtakes from a wide range of sessions throughout his career, no outtakes from this iconic recording session have ever surfaced to date.
The photo was taken on July 3, 1956.
