First details of the new FTD/Flaming Star box
For many months, many fans and collectors of Elvis Presley records have been hearing about a collector’s set/box dedicated to the 1972 documentary “Elvis On Tour”. The FTD label, which was supposed to produce it, repeatedly postponed its release date. In the meantime, many products with similar themes have already been released, including the “On Tour” set officially produced by Sony Legacy (containing 6 CDs with recordings of four concerts and extensive fragments of rehearsals from March 1972 and a Blu-Ray disc) and extensive books “Elvis On Tour 1972-2022” by Erik Lorentzen and Jerry Luckenbach.
And although it seems that the titles mentioned above largely cover the topic – both in terms of audio (although there is still a lot to be released officially in this matter) and in terms of content, it is worth recalling that fans of Presley’s work for years, invariably , are waiting for one thing – the official release of unpublished video materials shot for the film that have been left in the archives. In total, several dozen hours of rehearsals (recorded in March and April 1972) and four complete concerts (in Hampton Roads, San Antonio, Richmond and Greensboro).
At a recent meeting of the Norwegian Elvis fan club, “Flaming Star”, Ernst Jorgensen and Pal Granlund informed the guests about the premiere of a new box focusing on the above-mentioned documentary scheduled for this year, or more precisely in November.
The “Elvis Now In Person 1972” set will be another joint project of FTD and the Flaming Star fan club (after the wildly successful “The Making Of Boue Hawaii”, “The Making Of Jailhouse Rock” and “That’s The Way It Is”).
What should you expect from him? Will we see at least one DVD/Blu-Ray disc with even a few minutes of previously unpublished video material?
According to the reports of the meeting participants, unfortunately NO. According to the authors of the online website (account) ElvisOnTour1972, the announced set will include two extensive books full of interesting facts about the film and rare and previously unpublished photos, as well as four CDs with rehearsals from the spring of 1972 and concert recordings, including those made in Las Vegas (probably in January 1972).
