Probably as a tribute to his mother, Gladys Love Smith Presley, Elvis Presley recorded “His Hand In Mine“, his seventh studio album, released in November 1960.
The album, the first of three “full-length” albums of Gospel music that released by Presley during his lifetime, it was recorded at night between October 30 and 31, 1960 at RCA’s Studio B in Nashville, TN.
IN JUST ONE SESSION!
Elvis Presley had a passion for Gospel, both black and white, and often used it to rehearse before/after concerts or at the beginning of a recording session.
He had previously dedicated a fantastic EP, “Peace In The Valley“, to his love of Gospel, and was eager to record a full album of Gospel songs.
The songs “Surrender” and “Crying in the Chapel” were recorded during this session, but were shelved to be released as singles.
“Surrender” was their first hit single in 1961 and reached first place on the Billboard Hot 100 list, but “Crying in the Chapel” had to wait for its release until April 1965, reaching third place on the list and topping the chart. British singles chart.
Argentina also published it, and it was an absolute success. In addition to Presley’s album, there were covers by Sandro and Los Cinco Latinos.
In that unforgettable session, they worked:
• Elvis Presley: voice and acoustic guitar
• The Jordanaires: backing vocals
• Boots Randolph: sax
• Scotty Moore: electric guitar
• Hank Garland: acoustic guitar
• Floyd Cramer: piano
• Bob Moore: double bass
• D.J. Fontana, Buddy Harman: drums
