The official start of the Christmas season at Graceland today
Like many of us, Elvis Presley loved Christmas. Throughout his career filled with numerous responsibilities, he tried to arrange his activities so that he could be at home with his family and loved ones a few weeks before the December holidays.
He was involved in the preparations. He took an active part in decorating the residence and the surrounding areas, and when everything was ready, he went shopping so that on this special evening of the year, each of the residents of Graceland and the people working there could find their dream gift under the Christmas tree.
After the singer’s untimely death in August 1977, Graceland management decided to continue the tradition of decorating his estate for Christmas.
For several years, in November, Elvis fans have been invited to the second most famous estate in the USA after the White House, in whose presence members of Presley’s family and the mansion managers celebrate the ceremonial opening of the Christmas season.
The event is accompanied by musical performances, visits by invited guests and even… “Elvis” disguised as Santa Clauses circulating among the guests. Everything takes place to the sounds of unforgettable Christmas songs from Elvis’ hit Christmas longplays – “Elvis’ Christmas Album” and “Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas“.
Such an event will take place today!
At exactly 6 p.m. local time (in Memphis), i.e. around 1 a.m. Polish time, Graceland will once again be illuminated by Christmas illuminations, the gathered guests will, as always, be greeted by a large inscription “Merry Christmas to All” and life-size figures of members of the Holy Family set up in front of the nativity scene on the lawn and… the Christmas season will officially begin.
This year is special.
And it’s all thanks to the special Christmas program “Christmas at Graceland“, which on November 29 will be broadcast by NBC ‘live’ directly from Elvis’ estate.
The biggest stars of the music scene of that time will take part in a special concert. The names presented yesterday included Alanis Morissette, John Legend, Kacey Musgraves, Kane Brown, Lainey Wilson, Lana Del Rey, Post Malone and the group The War And Treaty.
The executive producer of the show is Riley Keough, Elvis’ granddaughter.
